NJ Property Tax Relief
NJ Senior Freeze: Eligibility & Income Limits
The Senior Freeze, officially the Property Tax Reimbursement program, refunds increases in property taxes for qualifying seniors and people with disabilities.
What does Senior Freeze do?
Once you qualify, the state reimburses you for increases in your property taxes above your "base year" amount. In effect, your property tax bill is frozen at that level.
Who qualifies?
- You are 65 or older, or receive Social Security disability benefits
- You have owned and lived in your New Jersey home for the required number of years
- Your income is at or below $168,268
- Your property taxes were paid on time
Senior Freeze vs. Stay NJ
Senior Freeze has a lower income limit than Stay NJ ($500,000). Some seniors qualify for both, and the programs are coordinated so you receive the benefits you're due.
How to apply
Check the NJ Division of Taxation for this year's filing deadline.
Amounts and limits change every year. Always confirm current rules with the NJ Division of Taxation.
